Biodiesel
Biodiesel is a clean burning fuel derived from vegetable oil sources that can be burned in place of petroleum diesel fuel, or blended with it in any ratio. It can be used in compression-ignition (diesel) engines with no major modifications. Biodiesel is simple to use, biodegradable, nontoxic, and essentially free of sulfur and aromatic chemical compounds.
Technically, it is defined as a fuel composed of mono-alkyl esters of long chain fatty acids. In its pure form, it is often referred to as B100, and when properly made, is capable of meeting specific quality standards set forth by the requirements of the American Society for Testing & Materials (ASTM D6751). Fuels meeting this standard have been approved by the EPA as being highly beneficial with respect to health effects, and in terms of significantly reduced pollution effects. These and other beneficial attributes are described below. In practice, B100 is generally blended to create a two-percent biodiesel mix with petroleum diesel, referred to as B2, and a 20-percent mix, referred to as B20. B100 is also classified as non-toxic, and therefore not subject to many of the hazardous substance rules and handling risks associated with petroleum-derived diesel fuels, often referred to as “petroleum diesel.”
Biodiesel is less toxic than table salt and biodegrades faster than sugar. GLOBAL BIOFUEL SOLUTIONS Inc. will produce biodiesel branded as “BioD+TM,” reflecting the addition of a combustion enhancing product. “Plus” will reflect the addition of processing steps from the actual contract with the farmers growing our oilseed crops locally to our in-house oilseed crushing facilities and the production of bio-lubricants. “Plus” also reflects the emphasis on distribution at the wholesale level and the retail level. Finally, “Plus” reflects the organizational structure of GBS, the caliber of our core management team, the ISO-9000 certification, the ISO-14000 target, and the BQ-9000 industry designation.
